WHAT: In celebration of Read Across America Day, Clifford the Big Red Dog and local Union Pacific employees will visit students at Bluffview Elementary School and read the new Scholastic book, “Clifford and the Railroad Crossing.” In this highly anticipated book, Clifford learns about railroad crossing safety alongside his closest friend Emily Elizabeth and her teammates who are going to a softball game.

Read Across America Day promotes reading to children and is celebrated annually on the school day closest to March 2, famed author Dr. Seuss’ birthday.

WHEN & WHERE: Friday, March 1, 2019 at 9 a.m. at Bluffview Elementary School, 905 Bluffview Drive, Dupo, Illinois.

WHY IT’S IMPORTANT: Union Pacific’s Community Ties Giving Program partnered with Safe Kids Worldwide and Scholastic to create the Clifford book, designed to teach valuable lessons about safe behavior around railroad tracks in a fun and engaging way. Safe Kids Worldwide is a nonprofit organization working to prevent childhood injury, through initiatives like its Start Safe Travel program for transportation safety education.

Books also are available online at the Union Pacific Store.
