Edwardsville, ILL., April 13, 2017… The Leadership Council Southwestern Illinois welcomed a crowd of over 400 for its 2017 Salute to Southwestern Illinois Awards Dinner Thursday April 6, 2017. The event celebrated the Centennial Activities of Scott AFB, American Bottoms Levee Re-Accreditation, and Leadership Council and nominated 100+ year old Foundational Businesses who make, ship, or build products.

The annual awards program salutes those individuals and organizations that have displayed outstanding leadership and have positively impacted our region, and this year was no exception. With the theme 100+ Years of Continued Growth, the event recognized the following as recipients of the 2017 Salute to Southwestern Illinois Award:

Scott Air Force Base

Southwestern Illinois Flood Prevention District Council

During the awards presentation, it was noted that the Scott Air Force Base is the largest employer in Southern Illinois and has had strong community relations for over 100 years thanks to the continuous support of the region. Scott Air Force Base injects over $3.5 billion dollars into local economy and positively impacts over 13 surrounding counties.

Southwestern Illinois Flood Protection District Council was recognized for its outstanding work in the restoration of the American Bottom Levee System, and for quickly closing in on the 100-year level of FEMA Re-Accreditation. As a result of being the first region in the county to overcome the levee challenge, we are now 10+ years ahead of other regions.

The following Leadership Council and nominated foundational businesses that make, ship, or, build products, were honored for their continued growth and support of our region for 100+ years:

Ameren Illinois, Eckerts Inc., Egyptian Workplace Partners, Glik Stores, Illinois American Water Co., McCarthy Building Companies, Murphy Co., Olin Corporation – Winchester Division, Phillips 66, Solvay Fluorides, Terminal Railroad Association,

The Alton & Southern Railway Co., The Boeing Co., and Union Pacific Railroad.

The Leadership Council welcomed the Keynote Speaker, Dr. Agnes Scoville, MD founder and CEO of the AGGIE MD brand of smarter baby wellness products. Dr. Scoville inspired the crowd and gave insight on the startup of her company and the benefits of entrepreneurialship.

Mike Riley Sr. was recognized for all of his hard work and dedication for being the 2016 Chairman of the Leadership Council and was presented the Chairman’s Award.
